Two containers are available under the kitchen sink. One must be exclusively used for organic residues and napkins/tissue paper, and the other to dispose of non-organic trash. Make sure that food containers are rinsed before disposing of them. Diapers are to be disposed of in a separate bag.

Failure to separate trash will incur a $150 pesos fee (charged through Airbnb), which the municipality charges to pick up unsorted trash.

Cash is still widely used in San Agustín Etla, both in convenience stores and restaurants. You will find an ATM just 350 meters from The Wooden Box. Walk down on Porfirio Díaz to the end of the street, and then take a right. You will find the Banco del Bienestar just 80 meters away.

Beto, our house manager, is very knowledgeable about the area and can arrange hikes to the old hydroelectric power plant or the Picacho (the big peak in front of the house).

While there are no fixed prices for these, we encourage tipping Beto for his time.

Fernando speaks fluent English and can be booked for airport and city transfers ($700 one way), as well as tours.

If you need a local taxi while in the house, please ask Beto to arrange it.

We encourage our guests to support the town's local grocery stores. There are several nearby tienditas, the closest located about 350 m from the house. Take a walk down Porfirio Díaz and then turn right. You will see it about 40 meters from you. Most of the tienditas are cash only.

If you are on a long-term stay, it's worth taking a trip for large supplies to the Aurrera or Chedraui supermarket approximately 20 - 25 minutes away by car.

There is a furnace on the roof terrace which you are free to use. Lumber will be provided for the first use. If you need more you can buy from Beto for $100 pesos.

Two or three pieces of lumber do the trick, please don't use more than that at the same time.

Please do not move around the furnace as it is fragile and can break if you try to change its place.

Make sure to put out the fire before you leave.

Cleaning is included once every two weeks during long-term stays (more than a week). It will be done on Wednesdays.

However, Beto, our gardener, will need to go into the house to water our plants once a week.

We have a watering system that goes on everyday from 5:30 to 6:00 in the morning.

Garden work is done once a week. Our gardener, Beto, will ring the door before entering the property. Depending on the length of your stay you might meet him.

Our top places in Oaxaca

Google them for info. Having a car is ideal for these, otherwise ask Fernando for tours.

Hierve el Agua

Located 90 minutes outside of Oaxaca City, near the town of Mitla, Hierve el Agua is well worth the drive. It's a group of flowing springs and natural pools with rock formations that resemble a waterfall.

Mitla

While Monte Alban is the most known archeology site in Oaxaca, we prefer this one, more impressive and compact. Can be combined with a visit to Hierve el Agua, or a Mezcal tasting tour.

Teotitlán del Valle

Don't miss the chance to wander into artisan's households to witness ancient weaving techniques that have been passed down from generation to generation. We can arrange a visit to a local family so that you can experience this first hand.

Alebrijes

If you have kids, you have probably seen Pixar's Coco movie. This is the Alebrije studio that inspired some of the characters: jacoboymariaangeles.com

Jardín Botánico

The Ethnobotanical Garden of Oaxaca exhibits hundreds of live plant species, all native to Oaxaca.

San Agustinillo

If you are planning to head out to the beach, then this is the place to go. Just amazing!
